FRECUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR KIRBY'S OWNER'S

Do you have questions about your Kirby system? Start here. From vacuum problems to general maintenance, ask our frequent questions to find what you are looking for in the future.

VACUUM

A: This is your Neutral/Drive pedal.
When vacuuming or using the accessory to brake in a vertical position, press the drive pedal (D). The Tech Drive® electrical assistance is activated so that it is easier to push your Kirby.

For balanced use of the product (e.g., cleaning hard floor surfaces, vacuuming in container mode with a connection hose, vacuuming in manual mode, use of an air pump, turbo accessory, etc.), press the Neutral (N) pedal.

A: There is a filling line in the removable bag and when the waste reaches this line you must replace the removable bag because it does not filter correctly. Make sure to only use genuine Kirby filter bags to ensure your Kirby system cleans properly.

A: We do not suggest washing or soaking the outer bag.

A: There are some reasons why this could be happening. It is possible that the void is not configured at the appropriate height. If the motorized nozzle is too high on the floor, the brush will not reach the floor to clean it properly. To adjust the height, simply press the touch pedal on the side of the unit.
Another reason could be that the cell roller is not turning. If the indicator light on the handrail on the mouthpiece is not on, it could mean one of the following things: the handwheel does not turn freely or the belt slips, it is broken or not engaged. To activate the rotating cell, turn the belt elevator handle and turn it in the direction of the watch needles until the green arrows align.
Finally, you can have your bag full. Check the removable filter bag to see if it is full and replace it if it is.

A: No. Do not use Kirby to collect water from soil or carpets.

Mop & Scrub

A: First, use only carpet shampoo in your system. Unscrew the large cap from the shampoo tank and use it to measure the dosage. For a small room, fill the tank with water to the first line on the side and add one capful of shampoo. To clean a large room, fill the tank to the third line and add three capfuls of shampoo.

A: To produce proper foam, the foam screen and foam sponge must be inserted into the shampoo tank. To check this, remove the tank and make sure it is inserted correctly.

A: This could be due to one of two reasons. The foam screen and/or foam sponge are not in place. If it is not in place, it would allow too much water to be dispensed, making the carpet too wet.
Repeatedly cleaning the same area could also cause this. To avoid overwetting as you proceed, let the system dispense a layer of foam onto the carpet, then turn the shampoo tank valve to OFF before returning to the area to work on the foam and scrub the carpet.

A: Make sure you have installed the foam screen and sponge. The foam screen goes inside the small opening in the tank, the hose goes over the top, and the sponge goes inside the large opening in the tank.

GENERAL MAINTENANCE

A: To remove the power nozzle or front nozzle from the vacuum, first make sure the unit is off and unplugged. Press the Toe-Touch pedal all the way down. Then, lift the headlight hood, pull the belt lift handle toward you, and turn it counterclockwise until the red arrows align. Once the arrows are aligned, turn the accessory lock counterclockwise, which will release the power nozzle. You can now remove the power nozzle, attach the next accessory, and lower the hood.

To replace the nozzle, follow the steps above for removing the attached accessory. Once removed, the power nozzle strap should stretch over the inner hook. (If not, turn the belt lift handle counterclockwise until the red arrows align. The hook should catch and tighten the strap from the inside.) Rest the two hooks on the back of the power nozzle on the attachment bar at the front of the vacuum. Then push the nozzle against the unit and turn the accessory lock clockwise to lock it in place. Turn the belt lift handle clockwise until the green arrows align. This will release the belt from the hook to rotate the rotating brush.

A: First, make sure the unit is plugged in, then check if the accessory connected to the unit is properly connected. Depending on the accessory you’re using, make sure the motorized nozzle, hose, carpet shampoo system, or air inlet guard is properly connected. Next, check that the Mini Emptor, Shampoo Take, or Hose is properly attached to the side. If everything is connected correctly, your unit should turn on.

A: The belt may not spin freely on the brush roll. Turn the belt lifter handle and rotate it clockwise until the green arrows align. This will release the belt from the hook so it can spin freely on the brush roll. Be sure to check the rotating brush for any tangled hair or debris that may be preventing it from spinning.

A: There are two safety switches on your Kirby. One is on the front of the unit and the other is on the side where the bag attaches. If nothing is connected to the front of the unit, such as the floor nozzle, connecting hose, or shampoo system, the Kirby will not turn on. This prevents the blower from causing injuries and does not damage the blower. There is also a safety switch on the side of the unit where the bag attaches, or the tank if you are washing. If the mini emptor or tank is not properly connected to the Kirby, it will have no power. You must remove the bag or tank and reattach it, making sure it clicks into place.
